This 6-day Marangu Route trek climbs Mount Kilimanjaro starting at the rainforest-lined Marangu Gate, rising through moist forest and gradually shifting into moorland and alpine zones. Hikers rest in dormitory-style huts a rare comfort on Kilimanjaro.

On the way you pass through lush forest with monkeys and birds, then heath and moorlands with giant lobelias and groundsels.

The trail offers views of the twin volcanic peaks Kibo and Mawenzi, as terrain changes steadily with altitude. Summit night begins from Kibo Hut toward the icy alpine zone and high snowfields. A midnight climb leads to Uhuru Peak Africa’s highest point. After sunrise at the summit, you descend by the same route, returning through moorland, forest and finally base gate.
