This 5-day Umbwe Route climb follows a steep, direct path up Mount Kilimanjaro, beginning through dense rainforest before rising quickly into moorland and rocky terrain.
You’ll spend nights at remote camps such as Umbwe Cave, Barranco, Karanga and Barafu, gradually pushing altitude in demanding terrain while taking in sweeping mountain vistas.
On summit night, prepare for a long, strenuous climb but with commitment you reach the iconic Uhuru Peak.
Descent follows the gentler Mweka Route, taking you down through forested slopes and into the mountain’s base, where you reflect on your hard-earned achievement.
Take the most challenging and direct path up Kilimanjaro, ascending steep slopes through dense rainforest to dramatic ridges.
Experience solitude: this route is far less crowded, offering wilderness terrain and pristine landscapes.
Trek through changing environments from montane forest to moorland and alpine desert as you gain altitude.
Summit at night from Barafu Camp to reach Uhuru Peak by sunrise, then descend via scenic forested trails.
After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your hotel in Arusha. The morning begins with a drive to Umbwe Gate (5417 ft). Your journey heads to Umbwe Cave Campsite (9659 ft).

Barranco Huts (13077 ft) to Barafu Huts (15295 ft) via Karanga Valley (13235 ft).
Barafu Huts (15295ft) to Uhuru Peak (19341ft). Followed by descent via Barafu Huts to Mweka Huts (10190ft).
Mweka Huts (10190 ft) to Mweka Gate (5358 ft).
Return transport from Nairobi to the Mountain.
