7 Days Walking and Classic Safari

Overview

Over seven days, the Walking & Classic Safari blends active exploration with traditional game drives through Kenya’s wilderness. From Nairobi, you’ll travel to key reserves such as Aberdare or Mount Kenya, tracking wildlife on foot with experienced guides, then continue to Maasai Mara for classic safari drives. The walking segments bring you close to nature—tracking spoor, observing plants, insects, birds, and subtle ecosystem detail. At Mara, the pace shifts to vehicle drives across sweeping plains, spotting the Big Five and abundant wildlife. Nights are spent in comfortable lodges or camps, with full board service, local cuisine, and deeply immersive natural encounters at every turn.

Highlights

Guided walking safaris in forests and bushland reveal smaller creatures, tracks, plant life, and ecosystem layers missed in vehicle tours.

Classic game drives in the Maasai Mara and reserves deliver big wildlife sightings: lions, elephants, buffalo, zebra, and predator-prey interactions.

Stay in comfortable lodges or tented camps with meals, expert guides, cultural visits, and scenic transfers between wild landscapes.

A combination of foot-based exploration and vehicle drives offers a deeper connection with nature and varied safari experiences.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be met and transferred to a Lodge in Arusha, such as the secluded and beautiful Rivertrees Country Inn.

Enjoy a relaxed evening, preparing for the adventure ahead.

After breakfast, take a short drive to Arusha National Park, located at the base of Mount Meru.

The park offers diverse habitats, from montane forests to grassy plains. You will embark on a guided walking safari with an armed ranger.

The walk will focus on spotting black-and-white Colobus monkeys, various bird species, giraffes, and buffalo, all while learning about the park’s flora and fauna.

Return to your lodge in Arusha for dinner and overnight.

Morning: Start your day early with a sunrise game drive. This is the best time to see predators in action. Your guide will pack a picnic breakfast so you can enjoy a meal in the middle of the bush.

Afternoon: Continue your exploration, tracking the Great Migration (depending on the time of year). The vast, open plains offer incredible photographic opportunities.

Evening: Enjoy another evening at your campsite, sharing stories and experiences from the day’s adventure.

Start your day with an invigorating walking safari in a private conservation area near the park. Your guide will teach you how to track animals, identify spoor, and learn about the smaller inhabitants of the ecosystem.

After the walk, have lunch and then drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Check into a beautiful lodge in the highlands for the evening, enjoying the cool mountain air.

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive, focusing on the incredible density of wildlife. This is your best opportunity to see the endangered black rhino.

After a picnic lunch on the crater floor, you’ll drive to the remote Empakaai Crater.

This afternoon is dedicated to a trek with an armed ranger and a Maasai guide. The walk takes you down into the crater, where you will see a stunning soda lake with thousands of flamingos. The views of the active volcano, Ol Doinyo Lengai, are spectacular from the rim.

Spend the night at a mobile fly camp in the highlands, a true wilderness experience.

After a final morning walk, you’ll drive to the Serengeti. The journey itself is a game drive, offering opportunities to spot wildlife as you go.
