6 Days Tanzania Camping Safari

About This Safari

A Tanzania camping safari is the ultimate adventure for those who want to immerse themselves in the raw, untamed beauty of the African bush. This is a journey that goes beyond a simple safari; it is a chance to reconnect with nature, to feel the rhythm of the wild, and to sleep under a blanket of a million stars.

This itinerary covers the highlights of Tanzania’s famed Northern Circuit, offering an authentic safari experience at an exceptional value. Unlike a lodge safari, you’ll be staying in comfortable, well-equipped tents within or on the edge of the national parks, allowing you to be as close to the wilderness as possible. Your nights will be filled with the thrilling sounds of the bush—the distant roar of a lion, the whoop of a hyena, or the call of a nightjar—creating a truly unforgettable experience that simply cannot be replicated by staying within the walls of a hotel.

With a dedicated safari crew including a skilled driver-guide and a private cook, all the logistics are taken care of, allowing you to focus completely on the incredible wildlife and landscapes. This is a classic safari for the adventurous soul, promising an intimate and authentic encounter with the heart of Africa.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Morning: Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha. After a short briefing, you’ll drive to Tarangire National Park. The park is known for its massive baobab trees and large herds of elephants, especially during the dry season.

Afternoon: Enjoy a game drive through the park, looking for wildlife like giraffes, zebras, and various antelopes.

Evening: Your guide will take you to your campsite inside the park. Your cook will have already set up the tents and will prepare a fresh, hot dinner for you. You’ll spend the evening around a campfire, listening to the sounds of the wilderness.

Morning: After a hearty breakfast, you’ll depart for the Serengeti. The journey is a game drive in itself, as you’ll pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with opportunities to spot Maasai villages and wildlife along the way.

Afternoon: Arrive at your public campsite in the central Serengeti’s Seronera area. Settle in before heading out for an afternoon game drive, a prime location for spotting lions, leopards, and cheetahs.

Evening: Return to camp for dinner and an unforgettable night under the vast, star-filled African sky.

Morning: Start your day early with a sunrise game drive. This is the best time to see predators in action. Your guide will pack a picnic breakfast so you can enjoy a meal in the middle of the bush.

Afternoon: Continue your exploration, tracking the Great Migration (depending on the time of year). The vast, open plains offer incredible photographic opportunities.

Evening: Enjoy another evening at your campsite, sharing stories and experiences from the day’s adventure.

Morning: Enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti. You’ll then begin the drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Afternoon: Ascend the Ngorongoro Highlands and arrive at the Simba Campsite on the crater rim. The views from here are breathtaking.

Evening: Settle in and enjoy a spectacular sunset over the crater. The cool highland air is a welcome change after the heat of the Serengeti.

Morning: Rise early and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor. The crater is a unique ecosystem with a high density of wildlife, including all of the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo).

Afternoon: Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor next to a hippo pool. After the game drive, you will ascend the crater and drive to a campsite near Lake Manyara or Karatu town.

Morning: Drive to Lake Manyara National Park. This small but diverse park is famous for its tree-climbing lions and a large population of baboons and birds.

Afternoon: After a final game drive, you’ll begin the journey back to Arusha.

Evening: Your guide will drop you off at your hotel in Arusha or at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure flight.
