Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival

Welcome to the Pearl of Africa! Upon arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will be warmly received by a representative from our affiliate tour company in Uganda and transferred to The Boma Hotel in Entebbe for rest and an overnight stay (just 5–10 minutes away). Of the over 800 mountain gorillas worldwide, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to nearly half of the population, making it one of the best places to observe these gentle giants at close range. Thanks to dedicated wildlife conservation programs, the gorilla population in Bwindi has increased from about 300 to over 400 in recent years, with nine different families habituated for tourism purposes. Beyond its famous gorilla residents, the dense rainforest is also home to nine other primate species. Visitors can explore different trails in the park, such as the Munyanga River Trail and the Waterfall Trail, which lead through pristine rainforest landscapes to three sparkling waterfalls.

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for a domestic flight to Western Uganda, departing at either 07:00 or 07:45 hrs. Upon arrival at Kihihi Airstrip (expected around 08:45 or 09:30 hrs), you will continue by road for approximately one hour to the home of the endangered mountain gorillas. After check-in at the lodge, enjoy a delicious lunch, followed by an afternoon at leisure to relax and prepare for the next day’s adventure. Alternatively, you may opt for a guided forest walk to gain a first introduction to Uganda’s unique flora and fauna while acclimatizing to the environment.

Dinner and overnight stay will be at Haven Lodge Buhoma – Cottage (B-L-D).

Note: Due to the early departure, it is possible to request a packed breakfast in advance.

Arise early today and prepare for the highlight of your safari—an unforgettable encounter with the gentle giants! After breakfast, you will be transferred to the national park offices, where you will be assigned a gorilla family (in groups of eight) and introduced to your professional tracking guide. A pre-tracking briefing will cover essential information about gorillas in general, details about your assigned family, and important safety precautions. From here, you will drive to the trailhead to begin your thrilling adventure. The trek can take between 2 to 8 hours, often along steep, muddy trails with possible rainfall, requiring a reasonable level of fitness. Yet, the reward of standing just meters away from a powerful silverback and his family makes every step of the journey worthwhile.

Today we will depart the impenetrable forest of Bwindi and with the morning flight to Entebbe International Airport where you will connect to flight back to Nairobi, Kenya. (B)
