DESTINATION: NAIROBI –- MASAI MARA- NAKURU – NAIROBI

DURATION: 3 DAYS/2 NIGHTS

ETS N461       4DS 3NS  Nakuru, Masai Mara National Reserve

Masai Mara National Reserve.

The Maasai Mara is a large game reserve in South-West Kenya. The name is derived from the Maasai people and the Mara River which divides it into eastern and western parts. The extensive savanna grassland in between the rolling hills hosts a large variety of wild animals. Every year about 2.5 million wildebeests and hundred thousands of zebras wander through the Masai Mara between the months of June and October on their Great Migration between the Serengeti National park in Tanzania and Masai Mara in Kenya. This spectacle has recently been declared the 7th natural world wonder. Masai Mara is a permanent home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, black rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, antelopes and around 400 species of birds among many others.

Nakuru National Park

On the floor of the Great Rift Valley, surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland, lies the beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park. Visitors can enjoy the wide ecological diversity and varied habitats that range from Lake Nakuru itself to the surrounding escarpment and picturesque ridges. Lake Nakuru National Park is ideal for bird watching, hiking, picnic and game drives.

Animals

The park is an important stronghold for the rare Rothschild’s giraffe. It was introduced to the park in the 1980s and has now become locally common. Aside from the widespread velvet monkey and olive baboon, the beautiful black-and-white colobus monkey can sometimes be found in the acacia forest. A highlight, if you’re lucky enough, are the tree-climbing lions – Lake Nakuru NP is the best place in Kenya to see them.

Day 2 Nakuru- Maasai mara

Depart Nakuru after breakfast and drive through the floor of the Rift Valley to the world famous game reserve, the Masai mara arriving at Sarova lodge. The search for great predators and perhaps even cubs continues in the afternoon. On the plains are enormous herds of grazing animals plus the elusive cheetah and leopard hiding amidst acacia boughs. Masai Mara remains the most exciting wildlife eco-system in the world. The reserve hosts the highest concentration of wild animals per sq. km than any other park in the region. The scenic appeal of this tree studded savannah, its’ modest temperatures and diversity of wild game species makes the reserve a one stop shop for game viewing.

Day 3 Masai Mara National Reserve

Enjoy full day in an early morning and evening game viewing and exploration in this part of the Northern Serengeti Ecosystem where the great wildebeest migration takes place.

Months before the actual migration the herds ‘assemble’ in Serengeti in readiness for the crossing into Masai Mara. The plain is literally covered with these animals. Grunts and other animal sounds are heard, and territorial fights are commonplace. The migration, now declared the Seventh Wonder of the World takes place from end June to beginning September.

Dinner & Overnight: Masai Mara Sopa Lodge or similar
